NEUTRAL DENSITY FILTER Neutral Density Filters are essential in video recording when working in bright sunlight.  If you want to use a wide aperture in bright light to narrow the depth of field or reduce the shutter speed for blurring effects, you will need an ND filter.  Most camcorders incorporate internal “drop in” ND  filters in increments of  f- stops.  DSLR camera lenses require “add on” ND filters and if you have several lenses with different filter thread dimensions then you will need to carry multiple ND sets.  Avoid variable ND filters as these are polarizers and will distort color. Camcorder internal ND filters always stay clean. DSLR add on ND filters will need to be cleaned often.
